Your brand appears in ChatGPT. That does not mean it understands it correctly.

VISOR Method

Finding our brand in an AI answer can be a small pleasure. That is understandable. But before treating the appearance as a success, it is worth reading carefully what is being said about us.

The name may be right while the description is less accurate

An answer may mention a company correctly yet present an incomplete offering. It may associate it with an old business line, mix up different companies’ capabilities or attribute a product to the wrong company. These are different situations requiring different checks.

That is why separating presence from representation matters. The first question is whether we appear. The next is how we are identified, what information is attributed to the brand and whether that description helps people understand what we do.

Which information needs checking?

Some facts can be verified: a product, a service, a capability, a market of operation or a relationship between entities. Reviewing them requires a clear and current reference for the brand.

Other interpretations need context. If an answer connects us with a category we consider secondary, that does not automatically prove a factual error. It may reveal a difference between the positioning we want to build and the associations we find. We should explain that difference before deciding how to act.

An example to make it clearer

Imagine a fictional company that has expanded from one specific product into an integrated service. AI still describes it mainly through that original product. The basic information may be correct, but the account of its capabilities may be incomplete for someone seeking the current service.

Before asking the team to rebuild the whole website, we would review where the new offering is explained, which pages are being used and what external sources say. We might find underdeveloped information, outdated documentation or unclear attribution. Each finding changes the next step.

The three Integrity questions

In VISORY, Entity Clarity asks whether AI clearly identifies the entity. Basic Accuracy checks basic information against verifiable facts. Attribution Quality examines whether products, services and capabilities are correctly attributed to the brand or to known entities in its ecosystem.

Accuracy needs evidence. We do not accept a statement as correct simply because an excerpt shows no contradictions. Nor do we treat missing data as a brand error. Evidence coverage accompanies the interpretation to indicate how much we can conclude.

What marketing and PR can do

Marketing can review how the offering is presented, whether pages explain capabilities clearly enough and whether documentation answers customer questions. PR can help identify how external sources describe the company and work on a narrative consistent with the reality of the business.

The aim is not to repeat a phrase until it appears. It is to ensure that relevant information is well constructed, verifiable and maintains a clear relationship between the brand and its capabilities.

From a mention to a representation we can stand behind

A brand needs to recognise when information accurately reflects its proposition and when there is a disconnect to investigate. That view offers more than celebrating its name in an answer.

The audit helps locate the problem, return to the evidence and decide where information needs clarification or reinforcement. We can then examine new measurements and check whether the narrative still shows the same limitations. The first task is to understand them properly.
